Easter through Scripture: Part II

Care of the Body of Jesus

John 19:  31 Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him; 33 but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. 36 For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN.” 37 And again another Scripture says, “THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED.”

Matthew 27:40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.

Pilate had guards secure the grave with a large stone and a seal, as well as to stay in order to keep watch over the tomb. (Luke 23: 62-66)

Matthew 28: 1 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. 2 And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. 3 And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men.

Luke 24 7 saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

Matthew 28:6 He is not here, for He has risenjust as He said

After the dark scene of Good Friday, God's great power over SIN and DEATH is made into VICTORY in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ!

Luke 24:  8 And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.

Matthew 28: 16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. 17When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth".

Luke 24:  39 See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement,

Matthew 28: 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nationsbaptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even tothe end of the age.”

Luke 24:  51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven.
52 And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

And so indeed Jesus left us with the Great Commission to share the good news of His death on the cross and Resurrection so that all those who believe in the risen Christ may have eternal life.
As we celebrate Easter this week, surely it was not just meant to unite with family, but to TRANSFORM us.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
