DIY: Marker Mug

*UPDATE: Unfortunately, these Permanent marker idea on ceramic, then bake, are a total FAIL. After a few weeks, the sponge even with a light hand rubbed off some of the design... sad day :(

I found these cute, yet giant coffee or tea cups at the dollar store, & thought they would be the perfect project to share for the holidays. I am very content with the turnout & love that it is so simple, only 5 easy steps. All you have to do really is purchase an inexpensive mug, plate, or bowl, draw, or even use one you already have sitting in your cupboard, then make your design, & let sit in the oven. What else is great about this idea is that the possibilities are endless & can make for a special & perfect gift-- Fill it with a friend's favorite tea bags or coffee, gift card, etc. Or make a plate & fill it with some delicious holiday treats to give to loved ones. It could also make for a fun & cute craft for the kids to do or make them feel special with having their own personalized piece, rather than spending a fortune at your local ceramic cafe.
Note: upon reading-up on some blogs of those who had attempted this craft, they had noticed that the design began to fade or wash away when put in the dishwasher, so my suggestion is to hand wash these dedicates  I personally have only washed them both a few times gently by hand & have yet to come across any problems thus far.
Give it a try & can't wait to see your creativity come forth!

Step 1: Draw design on ceramic w/ pencil.

Step 2: Trace over with desired colored permanent or ceramic markers.

Step 3: Finish any details or touch-up any areas necessary.

Step 4: Bake in the oven @ 350F degrees for 30 minutes.

Step 5: Remove from oven, cool down & rinse. Viola!
A perfect addition to your pantry or as a gift.
